Some more classic hard rock lead guitar soloing and it’s the Scorpions again! Here’s the solo from the title track of Blackout.
This solo is typical of Matthias Jabs – lots of quick pentatonic licks, bending and great phrasing. This album was a breakthrough for the Scorpions in America, and I think this was the album when Matthias really started to make his mark as a player and step out from the shadow of former Scorpions lead guitarists, Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth. I don’t think Matthias ever got enough recognition as a player – and I think one of the reasons may be that Matthias’ solos do not “sound” difficult, and perhaps that’s because they are so memorable and melodic. However anybody who has ever tried to learn and play his stuff will be able to tell you otherwise – and this one is tough to get right!
Hope you enjoy it!
